Connect ProfitBooks to your AI assistant
Ask ChatGPT, Claude or Muse about your books in plain language, without opening ProfitBooks: profit and loss, vendor spend, missing statements, what’s waiting for your review. Upload a statement, or have it line up transactions for you to confirm.
Before you start
- A ProfitBooks account with at least one bank statement uploaded. New here? Start free, upload a statement, then come back.
- One of: ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise), Claude (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise), or Muse.
Connect
Find ProfitBooks
In your assistant, open the connectors or plugins directory, find ProfitBooks and choose Connect.
Sign in
Sign in with your ProfitBooks email and password. The address bar shows docyt.com: ProfitBooks is built by Docyt, so that is expected.
Allow
Review what the assistant can read and do, then choose Allow.
Ask
Back in your assistant, start a new chat and ask, for example, “Which bank statements am I missing?”
You do this once. The connection stays active until you disconnect it. Not seeing ProfitBooks in the directory yet? It’s rolling out. In ChatGPT (Developer mode) or Claude you can add it as a custom connector with https://mcp.profitbooks.ai/mcp.
What you can ask
If you have more than one business, name the one you mean.
What the assistant can see
- The ProfitBooks businesses your account has access to
- Reports: profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and others
- Transactions, including which are verified and which are waiting for review
- The statements you’ve uploaded, their processing status and the coverage map
- Your credit balance
It sees only what your account already sees. It never sees your password or bank login, and it doesn’t read your statement files itself; ProfitBooks does.
What it can do with your OK
- Upload a bank statement you share with it
- Save a note on a transaction
- Suggest categories for transactions waiting for review
- Mark transactions as verified
- Undo the last change it made
Uploads and notes apply right away. Categorizing, verifying and undo each show you a card first; nothing changes until you choose Confirm.
What it can’t do
- Move money or pay anyone
- Delete transactions, statements or your business
- Change your settings, plan or credits
- Act on anything without your account’s access
For those, use ProfitBooks. The assistant will tell you when something needs your attention there.
Who sees what
Your assistant only gets the data needed to answer what you ask. Each change it makes is recorded in ProfitBooks along with the assistant that made it.
Access lasts up to 365 days or until you disconnect.
About the numbers
Reports reflect the transactions you’ve verified so far. If statements are missing or transactions are still under review, the report isn’t final yet, and the assistant should say so. When in doubt, check the Needs review tab in ProfitBooks.
Asking questions doesn’t use credits. Credits are used when you verify transactions, whether you confirm in the chat or in ProfitBooks. See how credits work.

Disconnect or reconnect
- Remove ProfitBooks from your assistant’s connectors. That ends the access.
- To reconnect, repeat the steps under Connect.
- If you reset your password, connected assistants may be signed out. Reconnect if your assistant says it can’t reach ProfitBooks.
Privacy and security
Your assistant receives only the data needed to answer what you ask. ProfitBooks does not share your books with the assistant provider outside of your questions. Troubleshooting

| The assistant can’t find your business | Use the business name exactly as it appears in ProfitBooks. |
| Numbers look incomplete | Check for missing statements and transactions waiting for review. Reports include verified transactions only. |
| It proposed a change you didn’t ask for | Nothing happens until you choose Confirm on the card. Dismiss it, or ask it to undo if you already confirmed. |
| The sign-in page is on docyt.com | Expected. ProfitBooks is built by Docyt and uses the same sign-in. Use your ProfitBooks email and password. |
